Three covers were compared: the North American version, showing Donkey Kong leaping from a jungle backdrop with enemies and his signature bongos visible; the European version, similar but with a bright yellow background instead of the jungle scene; and the Japanese version, featuring a grey-blue background and no visible bongos. Readers voted North America the winner with 50% of 156 votes, ahead of Europe on 28% and Japan on 22%.
