Poppy launches her own ‘Fortnite’ musical mini-game

NME ·

Poppy has announced Poppy Secret Run, an interactive musical experience set in Fortnite, launching on 23 October. It lets fans explore a surreal version of her world and experience a performance of “Time Will Tell”, with choices shaping the route they take.

Players can go solo or in groups of four, and a concert-only version is available. Developed with French studio SoWhen?, the experience uses markerless motion capture and will remain available until 23 November. It is not endorsed by Epic Games, so Poppy-themed Fortnite skins and items will not be included.

Fortnite is an online game where players explore virtual spaces, take part in challenges and meet up with others. Creators can also build their own experiences inside it, including interactive stories and music events.

Poppy is an American singer and performer whose work combines music with striking visual themes. In this experience, players can explore a setting inspired by her creative world and hear one of her songs, with their choices affecting the route they take.

The project was made with SoWhen?, a French studio that creates digital experiences. It shows how musicians can use games to present their work in interactive settings, while Fortnite’s creator tools do not mean that every experience is officially endorsed by the game’s publisher.
