Pop remained the leading genre in the Billboard Hot 100’s top 10 during the first half of 2026, but hip-hop, country, dance, Latin and rock all held meaningful shares, showing a broader musical mix than in 2025. The findings, from Hit Songs Deconstructed, also point to a continued preference for solo singers and love-focused lyrics among the year’s biggest hits.

Pop accounted for 33% of top-10 appearances, down from 42% in 2025, while hip-hop/rap rose to 21%, largely because Drake placed nine new top-10 songs in May from his album ICEMAN. Country, dance/electronic, Latin and rock each took 10%, with Latin at a five-year high led by Bad Bunny; solo lead vocals reached 86%, exclusively rapped songs were absent for the first time since 2015, and love or relationships featured in 69% of top-10 hits.
