The final episode of “Power Book III: Raising Kanan” concludes the 1990s-set crime drama by showing the destruction of the Thomas family and explaining more of how Kanan Stark became the ruthless figure seen in the original “Power”. In a post-credits scene, Jukebox kills Raquel “Raq” Thomas in revenge for Kanan’s murder of her father, Marvin, delivering the long-promised explanation for the cousins’ eventual estrangement. The ending matters because it closes Kanan’s origin story while setting up the next chapter of the wider “Power” universe.

Creator Sascha Penn said he had long expected Raq to die in the final episode, although he considered letting her escape like Unique. He argued that Kanan’s actions, including killing Marvin, fit the established character viewers knew as an adult: a violent and deeply damaged man. Penn, Patina Miller and Mekai Curtis also discuss how the story will continue through Penn’s forthcoming Starz prequel series, “Power: Origins”.
