‘Power’ Star Marcus Callender Sets ‘Spades: The Play’ National Tour Dates
Marcus Callender, an actor recognised for his roles in Power and Wu-Tang: An American Saga, is taking his original stage play on a national touring production across major US cities this autumn. Following a successful four-week debut run in Harlem last November, the play will visit Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Atlanta, New Orleans, and Miami, with a total of 76 performances scheduled through December.
The production, developed by Callender as writer and director over the course of a decade, is set in 2013 Harlem and draws from his own personal experiences. It follows a group of young adults whose regular card game serves as the backdrop for deeper conversations about love, friendship, and relationships. Notably, each tour stop is hosted at culturally rooted venues—including a historic Black church in Washington D.C. and conservatories in Los Angeles—rather than conventional theater spaces, beginning with an exclusive one-night performance at Harlem's Studio Museum on 3 September.
