Power Trip Return With First Songs Since Death of Riley Gale

Pitchfork ·

Power Trip have returned with their first new music since the death of frontman Riley Gale in 2020. Released via Blue Grape, the double single "Precinct 3" and "Scavenger" marks a significant moment for the thrash-metal band as they move forward with a new chapter, with a full album set for spring 2027.

Since reuniting in late 2023, Power Trip have been fronted by Seth Gilmore, a longtime friend of the band and vocalist with Skourge and Fugitive. Founding guitarist Blake Ibanez, who co-produced the tracks with Jacob Hansen, said the band considered what Gale would have wanted when writing the new material, and reflected that this approach made the creative process flow naturally. Ibanez believed Gale would have been "stoked" to see the band move forward in this way.

Power Trip is an American thrash-metal band. Their frontman Riley Gale died in 2020. Gale was a founding member who was integral to the band's songwriting and identity, and his death led the band to stop performing and recording.

The band reunited in late 2023 with Seth Gilmore as their new frontman. Gilmore had been a friend of the band and previously sang for the metalcore bands Skourge and Fugitive. When composing new material, the band's remaining members considered what Gale would have wanted creatively and allowed that to guide their songwriting.

The band's current line-up includes Gilmore on vocals and founding guitarist Blake Ibanez. By reflecting on Gale's approach to music during their songwriting process, the band incorporated his influence into the new material despite the change in frontman.
