Pre-loved clothes project sells items for 50p

A community project in Sheffield is selling pre-loved clothes, including school uniforms, for as little as 50p to help families facing the cost of living. Organisers say the Echo project also aims to reduce clothing waste and make second-hand shopping feel welcoming, while connecting visitors with other community support.

Run by Manor and Castle Development Trust with Uni-Recycle, the project operates from York House in Manor Top and on City Road. Trust community development manager Dawn Dale said the scheme was created in response to financial pressures, clothing going to landfill and stigma around buying used items; some new school uniform items with their labels still attached are sold for 50p, compared with £14 for one dress. The trust also offers activities and services including wellbeing support, training and benefits advice.

In short

  • Sheffield project sells pre-loved clothing from 50p.
  • School uniforms help ease costs for local families.
  • The scheme also supports reuse and community connections.
