JSAUX has launched prebuilt E-Ink and PixelMatrix faceplates for Steam Machines, offering ready-made alternatives to Valve’s DIY Inkterface project. Both provide customisable displays with modes including performance monitoring, clocks, weather, calendars and photo frames, while software support is expected through Steam from early October.

The E-Ink model costs $100 and offers sharper detail and better photo-frame performance, but refreshes too slowly for useful live monitoring. The $90 PixelMatrix model provides colour and retro styling, though its chunky display handles detailed images poorly; both have minor fit and usability issues, including misleading frame-rate readings. Despite being luxury accessories, they are slightly cheaper than the estimated $104.50 component cost of building Valve’s DIY version, before adding 3D-printing costs.
