Swansea City head coach Vitor Matos has signed a new contract keeping him at the club until 2030, and says reaching the Premier League remains the long-term ambition even though the immediate focus is on competing with the Championship's leading clubs rather than setting explicit promotion targets. The extension gives Matos four full seasons in charge and comes after he took over in November 2025 and oversaw a marked improvement in results that eased the club's relegation worries.

Swansea finished last season 11th in the Championship, their fifth consecutive mid-table finish, and have not seriously challenged for promotion since losing the 2021 play-off final to Brentford under Steve Cooper. The club have again invested heavily this summer, spending around £15m on Elijah Just, Joseph Opoku and Moussa Yeo, while Stephen Welsh joined on a free transfer; Swansea are also pursuing a left-back, a central midfielder and possibly another centre-back before the transfer window closes. Matos said the aim was to build a team capable of competing with, and beating, the division's strongest sides rather than necessarily being the best-resourced club.
