Premier League news: United’s Baleba out for weeks, Maresca backs Donnarumma

Manchester United midfielder Carlos Baleba will miss several weeks with a hamstring injury, adding to the challenge facing manager Michael Carrick as the club tries to improve its results. United are 17th, level with the relegation zone on goal difference, and Carrick says rebuilding to the standards of Alex Ferguson’s era will take time.

Baleba, 22, joined from Brighton for £70m in the summer and had made seven appearances; his injury came in Tuesday’s 3-2 win over Roma. Carrick also said Patrick Dorgu is gradually returning to training after hamstring problems. Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca continues to back goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma despite three errors leading to goals this season, while Mikel Arteta praised Declan Rice’s drive to improve; Rice has five league assists, the most of any player this season.
