Preview: ‘Eternal Anima’ Returns To The Past To Create A Modern JRPG

Nintendo Life ·

Marvelous has unveiled *Eternal Anima*, a new role-playing game that draws on classic Japanese RPGs while adding its own ideas. A hands-on preview suggests its time travel and Psychometry abilities could give familiar turn-based combat a distinctive feel.

The preview follows protagonist Wade, a branded rebel who leaves the sky city of Urbis Ael to investigate the sunken continents and try to save them. In an early demo, he explores a decaying forest with robot M.O.S. and expedition leader Neria, and uses Psychometry to uncover a dead archer’s story and unlock the Bowhunter class. The one-hour PC session was limited to normal difficulty; other options are planned for the full release.

  • *Eternal Anima* blends classic JRPG ideas with time travel.
  • Wade’s Psychometry can reveal the past and unlock classes.
  • A preview found its turn-based battles engaging.
