Prime Video Adds ‘The Test’ Season 4 & True-Crime Docs On Backpacker Poisonings And Killer Trio To Australian Slate

Deadline · 2 hours ago

Prime Video has commissioned two true-crime documentaries and a fourth season of cricket series The Test as part of its Australian originals slate, the streamer's exclusive deal announced. The move forms part of Amazon MGM Studios' broader push to invest in local Australian productions, aiming to build content that resonates domestically while also appealing to international audiences on the platform.

Free Spirits: The Backpacker Poisonings, a three-part series produced by Cineflix, will examine the 2024 methanol poisoning tragedy in which six backpackers died and two survived, one of whom was left permanently blind, told through victims' own phone footage and testimony. Madness of Three, a five-part series from Blackfella Films, will investigate the 2022 Wieambilla killings in Queensland, in which siblings Nathaniel, Stacey and Gareth Train ambushed and killed two police officers and a neighbour before dying in a siege. The Test Season 4, made with Cricket Australia and Whooshka Media, will follow the men's cricket team through series in South Africa and India, the 150th anniversary Test and the build-up to the 2027 Ashes; the three new titles bring Amazon's total Australian original commissions to 34 since 2019.
