The parents of Celeste Rivas Hernandez have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against musician D4vd (David Anthony Burke), alleging he killed their 14-year-old daughter, alongside a related criminal murder case he already faces. The civil suit, filed by Mercedes Martinez and Jesus Rivas, also accuses Burke's mother, manager and bodyguard of enabling his alleged sexual exploitation of the teenager by knowing about it and failing to intervene.

The lawsuit, reported by TMZ and the Los Angeles Times, was lodged on Monday, exactly a year after Hernandez's dismembered remains were discovered in a car registered to Burke. Prosecutors allege Burke stabbed Hernandez after she threatened to expose their relationship, and he has been charged with murder with an aggravating factor, lewd acts with a child under 14, and mutilating a body, to which he has pleaded not guilty. He was ordered to stand trial in July and could face the death penalty, an outcome Hernandez's parents reportedly support; Burke now has 30 days to respond to the civil claim.
