Prime Video's live-action God of War series has found a new lead actor to play Kratos, with reports indicating Dave Bautista is in early negotiations to take over the role. The recasting follows an injury sustained by original star Ryan Hurst while filming the first season, which forced producers to replace him despite four episodes already having been shot. The move matters because it addresses a significant production setback for one of Prime Video's major gaming adaptations, based on the acclaimed 2018 God of War reboot and its 2022 sequel, Ragnarök.

Bautista, a former WWE wrestler turned actor, is best known for playing Drax in the Guardians of the Galaxy films and, more recently, Tagah in Avatar: The Last Airbender. The God of War series arrives alongside a wider expansion of the franchise, including the spin-off game God of War Laufey, due for release on 16 February 2027. News of Hurst's injury and the subsequent recasting broke last month, but no replacement had been named until this report.
