Prime Video's action thriller The Pirate, planned as a star vehicle for Aquaman actor Jason Momoa, is being rewritten and remains without a firm production timeline. Producer Kelly McCormick, speaking to Polygon about the unrelated Violent Night 2, confirmed the project is "brewing" but stalled largely because Momoa's schedule is packed with other commitments, leaving fans of the "Raid on a pirate ship"-style thriller with little clarity on when filming might begin.

The Pirate was first announced in August 2025, based on a spec script by Ms. Marvel writer Will Dunn, with Momoa expected to star and Deadpool 2 director David Leitch attached to direct via his and McCormick's 87North banner, known for Nobody, The Fall Guy and Violent Night. McCormick said Amazon and Momoa remain enthusiastic about the film, but Momoa's crowded slate, including Supergirl, Street Fighter, The Minecraft Movie: Squared, Dune Part III and Fast Forever, and his recent exit from Sony's Helldivers movie, means the script rewrite is likely to continue for some time before production can move forward.
