‘Princess Diaries’ Actor Erik von Detten Accused of Elder Abuse and Fraud in Gold Scheme
Former Disney actor Erik von Detten is facing a California lawsuit alleging elder abuse and fraud in connection with gold coin sales at Rosland Capital, where he worked. An elderly couple say he presented himself as an experienced adviser and persuaded them to invest retirement savings in coins they allege were significantly overpriced; the case matters as the company’s collapse has left customers seeking refunds and answers.
Sheila Greenberg, 85, and Norman Greenberg, 97, say they invested more than $2 million after contacting Rosland in 2020 and lost about $900,000. Rosland ceased operations and filed for bankruptcy in July, reporting $64 million in liabilities against $500,000 in assets; a creditors’ committee is investigating von Detten’s role and says similar complaints came from hundreds of customers. The company reported $151 million in revenue in 2021, then net losses of $24 million from 2022 to 2025, according to bankruptcy filings.
