PS5 emulators are making years’ worth of progress each day, as these Minecraft and Demon’s Souls clips show
PS5 emulation projects are reportedly advancing at an unusually rapid pace, with developers describing daily leaps forward as competing teams race to run PlayStation 5 games on PC. The push comes as Sony prepares to phase out discs entirely from January 2028, prompting emulator developers to work quickly so players can preserve and run their games independently of physical media or Sony's servers.
According to posts shared by a commentator on X, the emulator SharpEMU went from booting Demon's Souls Remake into a glitchy black screen to displaying working character-creation menus within a single day, while a separate clip showed Minecraft rendering its 3D world well enough for a player to reach and defeat the Ender Dragon, albeit with broken textures. A rival emulator, KytyPS5, has reportedly managed to fully boot games including Dead Cells and Blasphemous 2, and previously got far enough into GTA 5's PS5 port to adjust in-game settings. The article's author suggests that, at this rate, playable PS5 games on PC could arrive within roughly a year.
