PSY's 2012 hit "Gangnam Style" has become the first K-pop music video to surpass 6 billion views on YouTube, a milestone reached almost exactly 14 years after its release. The achievement cements the South Korean star's legacy as a trailblazer for K-pop's global crossover, paving the way for acts such as BTS and BLACKPINK to find mainstream success worldwide.

The comedic, dance-driven video, directed by Cho Soo-Hyun and reaching No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2012, made history in its release year by becoming the first video ever to hit one billion YouTube views, founding what is now known as the platform's "Billion Views Club". Several other K-pop videos have since joined that club, including BTS's "Dynamite" and "Butter" and BLACKPINK's "Pink Venom" and "How You Like That", though none has come close to matching "Gangnam Style"'s latest total.
