Pulp’s star plaque honours legendary city band
Pulp have been honoured with a star on Sheffield’s walk of fame, recognising the band’s place in the city’s cultural life. Past and present members joined the Lord Mayor for the unveiling outside the town hall, while fans gathered to celebrate nearby.
Singer Jarvis Cocker said Pulp began in 1978 as a school-age group making noise at his mother’s house, and that the band’s strength lay in inventing things for themselves. Council leader Fran Belbin highlighted the 15 years the band spent in relative obscurity before their success, citing their persistence as an example for aspiring artists. Pulp became widely acclaimed in the mid-1990s with the album *Different Class* and hit single “Common People”.
