Rahm Emanuel, the former White House chief of staff under President Barack Obama, has warned that the agenda promoted by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) fails to resonate with voters beyond a narrow, liberal-leaning demographic. Speaking on CNN on Monday, he argued that policies favoured by democratic socialist candidates are out of step with the concerns of most Americans, a critique that adds to a wider debate within the Democratic Party over its ideological direction.

Emanuel, known for his moderate stance within Democratic politics, suggested the DSA's platform plays well only among a small, affluent progressive base rather than the broader electorate the party needs to win over. His comments come amid growing scrutiny of the DSA's positions, including reported calls from within the group to abolish the Senate, national borders and prisons, fuelling ongoing tension between the party's centrist and left-wing factions ahead of future elections.
