‘Ramayana’ Sets November Release Date

Variety · 3 hours ago

Sony Pictures Entertainment has confirmed that "Ramayana", its two-part big-budget adaptation of the ancient Hindu epic, will open globally on 6 November, with a sequel following in 2027. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and starring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi, the film retells the story of exiled prince Rama, his consort Sita and the war triggered by her abduction by the demon king Ravana. Its scale and cross-cultural ambitions, including a multi-language release and Imax production, mark it as a significant attempt to bring Indian mythology to global mainstream audiences.

Part one arrives during the Diwali period, deliberately echoing the festival's own commemoration of Rama's homecoming and victory over Ravana, with part two timed for Diwali 2027. The production brings together Hollywood and Bollywood talent, including composers Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman, VFX house DNEG, and action choreographers Terry Notary and Guy Norris. It is produced by Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus Studios and Yash's Monster Mind Creations, with Karan Johar's Dharma Productions handling Indian distribution, and is written by Shridhar Raghavan based on Tiwari's direction.
