Fan development studio Lv.4 GAMES has released "Metroid Prime Origins," a project that reimagines Nintendo's 2002 GameCube classic Metroid Prime as an NES-inspired 2D adventure. It reworks the acclaimed first-person exploration title into an entirely retro 8-bit experience, complete with original sprites, sound effects and music, offering fans a fresh way to revisit the game that originally moved the Metroid series into 3D.

The remake reportedly covers the full journey from the opening frigate sequence through to the final battle with Metroid Prime itself, including 8-bit reinterpretations of well-known areas and music such as Phendrana Drifts and the Tallon Overworld. The creators are aware of the legal risk such fan projects carry, having already taken down an early trailer, and joked in their Reddit announcement about becoming a target for Nintendo's "ninjas." The project remains available to download via links on Reddit for now, though its future is uncertain given Nintendo's history of pursuing fan-made adaptations of its properties.
