Range Rover has unveiled the Range Rover GT, a new grand tourer model that marks a departure from the SUV body style the brand has built its identity on since 1970. Spy shots of camouflaged prototypes tested at the Nürburgring and the Arctic Circle had previously been mistaken for an electric successor to the Range Rover Velar, but the company has now confirmed these were early tests of the GT, positioning it as a rival to cars such as the Lucid Air and Porsche Taycan.

The Range Rover GT will be the first Jaguar Land Rover vehicle built on the new EMA platform, a flexible, powertrain-agnostic architecture that will launch the car as a full battery-electric vehicle before a hybrid version follows. Its cabin takes a markedly minimalist approach compared with Range Rover's SUVs, featuring twin OLED screens for instruments and infotainment, a standard head-up display, and a rear layout offering either two individual seats or a three-person bench. A fully undisguised reveal, along with further technical details, is expected later this year.
