Rashford, Mainoo & transfers – Carrick calls for more signings

BBC Sport · 5 hours ago

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick says he will continue pressing for further signings despite being pleased with the club’s summer recruitment so far. With United returning to the Champions League after two years away, he believes the squad still needs strengthening, particularly at left-back and in central midfield, while acknowledging the need to avoid repeating expensive transfer mistakes.

United have spent £83m on Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, while Karl Darlow has joined on a free transfer as a reserve goalkeeper. The club missed targets including Elliot Anderson and Matheus Fernandes after declining to match rival bids, and are reportedly spending less than newly promoted Ipswich and Coventry; Carrick also avoided guaranteeing that Marcus Rashford would remain beyond the 1 September transfer deadline.

  • Carrick wants more signings despite £83m spent already.
  • United still need left-back and midfield reinforcements.
  • Carrick would not guarantee Rashford’s future.
