Raspberry Pi has published its own official tutorial for building a "cyberdeck", joining a viral trend that has seen hobbyists on TikTok and other platforms build tiny portable computers from repurposed items such as handbags and jewellery boxes. The company's head of social, Ashley Whittaker, acknowledged the craze, noting it has become impossible to ignore, and the guide gives Raspberry Pi's fanbase an official, sanctioned way to take part alongside the many DIY versions already circulating online.

The official design uses a Raspberry Pi 5 board, a Raspberry Pi flash drive and a LiPo battery concealed beneath a Bluetooth keyboard, all housed in a plain black Pelican-style case, and comes with a full parts list and assembly instructions. The release also comes as Raspberry Pi has raised prices several times this year due to rising RAM and component costs, with the 16GB Pi 5 board used in the guide rising by $100 in April, almost matching its original $120 price. Content creators such as Annike Tan, whose "mermaid" purse cyberdeck has drawn millions of TikTok views, continue to push more elaborate builds, showing the trend extends well beyond Raspberry Pi's simple official design.
