Real Madrid demand La Liga president resign over Goebbels comparison
Real Madrid have demanded La Liga president Javier Tebas resign after he compared the club’s efforts to criticise referees with Nazi propaganda techniques. Tebas said he was comparing methods, not ideology or Madrid supporters; the club said his repeated attacks showed he lacked the neutrality and impartiality required for his role.
Tebas criticised Real Madrid’s television channel for repeatedly highlighting alleged refereeing errors involving officials appointed to the club’s matches. Madrid also renewed its criticism of his response to a judicial probe into Barcelona’s alleged payments to a refereeing official. Separately, FIFA rejected Spain’s appeal over sanctions for Islamophobic chanting at a March friendly against Egypt: the federation was fined $20,000 and ordered to close at least 15% of seats at its next home friendly, and plans to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
