South Yorkshire Fire Service has issued reassurance that smoke observed near the Tinsley Viaduct on Wednesday originated from a nearby small fire rather than from the infrastructure itself. Firefighters responded to the blaze overnight and determined that allowing the fire to burn in a controlled manner was the safest approach, given its location and the minimal risk it presented.

The fire service attended the incident close to the Tinsley Viaduct and, having assessed the situation, permitted the fire to continue burning under controlled conditions whilst maintaining ongoing monitoring. The viaduct itself was not affected by the fire, and the service has confirmed that the bridge structure remains uncompromised.
