Rebecca Ferguson has confirmed that her role as Lady Jessica in Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Three will be limited to a single scene, despite the character's central importance to the franchise. Speaking to ExtraTV at San Diego Comic-Con, Ferguson said her appearance amounts to one sequence already shown in the film's trailer, tempering expectations ahead of the December release of the long-anticipated adaptation of Frank Herbert's Dune Messiah.

Ferguson had previously hinted at a reduced role, saying earlier this year that she had only "dipped her toe in" the production, and revealed she initially believed Jessica would not feature in the film at all before Villeneuve decided to include the character. The lone scene is widely believed to be the exchange from the teaser in which Paul Atreides asks his mother, "How did father do it?", to which she replies, "Your father never started a war."
