Rebel Wilson's directorial debut "The Deb" has finally received its first trailer and a confirmed digital release date, following a lengthy and litigious road to market. The Australian musical comedy will launch digitally on 25 August in the US via Sunrise Films, with a UK release a day earlier through Vertigo Releasing, after its original April date was delayed by a bitter legal dispute involving Wilson, the film's producers and its star, Charlotte MacInnes.

The film follows farm girl Taylah Simpkins (Natalie Abbott) and her city cousin Maeve (MacInnes) as they navigate a small-town Debutante Ball, with Wilson in a supporting role and original songs by Meg Washington. It premiered as the closing film of the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, after which Wilson sued British producers Amanda Ghost, Gregor Cameron and Vince Holden, alleging harassment, cover-up collusion, intimidation and embezzlement; a judge dismissed those claims earlier this year. MacInnes separately sued Wilson for defamation over the harassment allegations, and that case remains ongoing.
