‘Red Rising’ Movie in the Works at Paramount With ‘Hunger Games’ Director Francis Lawrence
Paramount has acquired the rights to Pierce Brown’s “Red Rising” series and is developing a film based on the first book, with Francis Lawrence set to direct. Lawrence’s experience adapting “The Hunger Games” makes him a notable choice for the science-fiction story, which centres on inequality and rebellion.
Justin Rhodes will write the screenplay, while Lawrence, Cameron MacConomy and Francesco Goedhuis will produce; Brown will executive produce. The series follows Darrow, a miner from Mars’s oppressed Red caste who disguises himself as a Gold to infiltrate the ruling class. Six books have been published, and a seventh, “Red God”, is planned as the finale.
