Redmagic adds RGB lighting to its liquid-cooled 12 Pro gaming phone
Redmagic’s 12 Pro gaming phone adds RGB lighting to the transparent liquid-cooling loop, alongside other lights on the chassis. The coloured liquid remains fluorescent blue, however, so the loop’s lighting often appears in different shades from the phone’s other RGBs, making coordinated effects difficult.
The cooling system’s pressure rises to 130kPa, 85 per cent above the previous model, and is paired with a fan and vapor chamber. The phone has an 8,400mAh battery, 80W charging and a 185Hz display that reaches its top rate only in compatible games. Other details include up to 16GB of RAM, two 50-megapixel rear cameras, an under-display 16-megapixel selfie camera, no headphone jack and a fan area without rated dust protection.
In short
- RGB lighting struggles to overcome the blue cooling liquid.
- Cooling pressure is up 85 per cent to 130kPa.
- The 185Hz screen reaches its maximum in compatible games.
Explained simply
Redmagic is a gaming-phone brand owned by Chinese technology company Nubia. Its phones are designed for demanding games, which can make a handset hot, so they often combine powerful components with extra cooling and gaming-focused features.
Liquid cooling moves heat away from the processor through circulating fluid, while a fan and vapor chamber help disperse it. RGB lighting means coloured lights that can change or cycle through effects; on phones with transparent cooling parts, the lights can also make the cooling system visible.
A high refresh rate can make movement look smoother, but games need to support it to use the display’s fastest setting. Battery capacity, charging speed and dust protection are other practical factors for buyers, alongside performance and lighting.
