Reform UK has announced plans to overhaul social housing allocation so that British-born workers are prioritised, should the party win the next general election. Under the proposals, married couples with children under 35 who are in work, along with military veterans, would be moved to the front of council housing queues, building on the party's earlier pledge to evict foreign-born tenants to free up homes. The policy marks an escalation of Reform's stance on immigration and housing, and has drawn sharp criticism from rival parties who question both its legality and practicality.

Reform says 540,000 social homes are currently occupied by foreign nationals, and that 15% of the 1.3 million people on housing waiting lists are foreign-born. Deputy leader Richard Tice was also expected to unveil plans to build 50,000 affordable social homes annually. Labour called the plan "unworkable", noting that ineligible groups such as illegal migrants and asylum seekers already cannot access social housing, and warned the policy would affect long-term UK residents including NHS staff and require lengthy renegotiation with the EU. The Conservatives' Sir James Cleverly accused Reform of copying existing Tory proposals without proper costings.
