Reigning national champions Indiana survived a major scare from Northwestern, winning 29-23 in their Big Ten opener despite being three-touchdown favourites. The result extended Indiana’s unbeaten start but renewed concerns about its tendency to begin games slowly and struggle with discipline.

Indiana led 12-0 at half-time after Northwestern quarterback Aidan Chiles lost a snap for a safety, but the Wildcats rallied with two touchdowns and twice attempted a two-point conversion. Indiana responded through Lee Beebe Jr., who replaced the injured Turbo Richard and rushed for 203 yards, while penalties repeatedly allowed Northwestern to remain competitive.
