‘Relief’ of Premier League title has given Arsenal confidence, says David Raya

The Guardian · 25 minutes ago

David Raya says the "relief" of finally winning last season's Premier League title has boosted Arsenal's confidence as they begin their title defence in commanding fashion. The Gunners made it nine points from three games with a 2-1 home victory over Chelsea, playing with a freedom and intensity that contrasted sharply with the nervous, pressure-laden displays that marked the end of last season, when they overtook Manchester City to win their first title since 2004 after three runner-up finishes.

Goals from Kai Havertz and Martin Ødegaard secured the win after Arsenal fell behind inside 77 seconds to a Morgan Rogers volley, with Raya making a crucial late save to deny Chelsea's Estêvão. Raya said winning the league had given the squad extra motivation and belief that they "can beat anybody in this league", pointing also to their 3-0 Community Shield win over City as evidence of their improved mentality this season.
