Remedy revenue soars by 226% following release of Control Resonant, the developer’s fastest-selling game ever
Remedy’s revenue rose 226% to €39.6 million in the third quarter after the September release of Control Resonant, which the company says is its fastest-selling game. It also reported an operating profit of €0.6 million, compared with a €16.4 million loss in the same period last year.
Nearly half of the game’s players were new to the franchise, and the US accounted for almost half of its PC and console audience, followed by Chinese-speaking regions and the UK. The release also lifted sales of 2019’s Control, while Resonant passed one million sales after launch. Remedy says it wants to reach more players as it works on other projects, including remakes of Max Payne 1 and 2.
In short
- Remedy revenue climbed 226% to €39.6 million.
- Control Resonant passed one million sales after launch.
- Nearly half its players were new to the franchise.
Explained simply
Remedy Entertainment is a Finnish video game company best known for story-led action games, including the original Control, released in 2019. Control Resonant is a follow-up set in the same fictional world, and can attract both returning fans and people new to the series.
Game makers earn revenue from sales and other commercial activity around their titles, while operating profit measures what remains from operations after costs. The performance of a major release can affect a studio’s finances and the audience for its earlier games.
Remedy is also developing remakes of the first two Max Payne games, a series it created before the rights later changed hands. Its ability to reach players beyond existing fans may matter as it funds and releases projects across its catalogue.
