West Ham United U21s were beaten by Sheffield United U21s in their opening U21 Premier League Cup match. The result gives West Ham an early setback in the group stage, while Sheffield United begin their campaign with a win.

The fixture was played at York’s LNER Community Stadium on 25 August and was the sides’ first competitive meeting in the competition. West Ham had entered the match unbeaten in their first two fixtures of the season, following a National League Cup win at Worthing and a goalless Premier League 2 draw with Southampton.
