Overweight Somerset bulldog loses 9kg and finds a permanent home
Peggy-Sue, a bulldog who arrived at an RSPCA centre in Somerset weighing 32.5kg, has lost weight and found a permanent home. Her progress came after a gradual increase in exercise and a strict diet, helping her move more comfortably.
When she arrived in July 2025, Peggy-Sue struggled to walk and was vulnerable to overheating, infections and other health problems. She now weighs 23.5kg and lives with Emmie and Andy in Taunton, where she enjoys walks, car trips and exploring rock pools and streams. The RSPCA says several factors can contribute to pets becoming overweight, including diet, age, breed and some health conditions.
- Peggy-Sue has lost 9kg since arriving at an RSPCA centre.
- She now weighs 23.5kg and has been adopted in Taunton.

The RSPCA is a charity that cares for animals in England and Wales, including pets that need help or a new home. Bulldogs can be prone to weight gain, and carrying too much weight can make it harder for a dog to move and can increase the risk of health problems.
A dog’s weight can be affected by its food, age, breed and medical conditions. Vets and animal welfare staff may recommend a measured diet and gradual exercise, adjusted to suit the individual dog.
