Rescuers are struggling to reach areas of Nepal’s Rasuwa valley devastated by a huge flood reportedly triggered by a glacier collapse following a landslide. The disaster has destroyed villages, blocked roads with deep sediment and left thousands feared dead, while families await news of more than 300 missing tourists, including 33 Britons.

Officials had recovered 157 bodies by the previous evening, but expected the toll to rise as access improves. A group of 17 trekkers, including a 13-year-old British girl and her parents, lost contact near the Gyirong border crossing shortly before the flood; missing foreign nationals also include Indians, Ukrainians, Australians, Canadians and South Koreans.
