Researchers studying ChatGPT conversations surprised to find one power user churning out thousands of Doki Doki Literature Club pregnancy fics

PC Gamer · 3 days ago

A research study presented at Purdue University's MFS Cultural AI Conference examined half a million anonymous ChatGPT conversations to understand creative writing usage patterns. Researchers discovered that fiction-related requests were remarkably common, appearing in more than a third of conversations studied, encompassing original narratives, scripts, roleplay scenarios, and fanfiction. The analysis categorised users into two distinct behaviour patterns: those who cycled between different stories and those who repeatedly requested variations of the same narrative over extended periods.

The most notable discovery involved a single user who demonstrated an exceptionally focused interest in generating hundreds or thousands of pregnancy-themed fanfictions centred on the visual novel Doki Doki Literature Club. Over several months, this individual persistently requested variations where the character Natsuki was pregnant and giving birth, consistently naming the daughter Sakura across the numerous iterations.

  • Purdue researchers analysed 500,000 ChatGPT conversations and found fiction generation featured in over a third of chats, including fanfiction and erotica
  • One prolific user generated thousands of variations of Doki Doki Literature Club pregnancy stories over several months, predominantly featuring character Natsuki giving birth
