During production of the Resident Evil film, actor Austin Abrams narrowly escaped a potentially fatal accident when a 150-pound blood bag intended for a stunt sequence was accidentally released early on set. Director Zach Cregger disclosed that the bag missed Abrams by mere inches, and had he taken one step to the right, the impact would have been lethal.

Cregger explained the scene involved Abrams running down a street with bodies falling from surrounding buildings, achieved through real explosions and dropped blood bags rather than visual effects. Despite the dangerous mishap, the director chose to retain the footage in the finished film, expressing satisfaction that Abrams remained unharmed and deeming the authentic moment worth the risk.
