Silva, who was hospitalised alongside Captain Joseph Carroll, 55, and has since been released, is a Colombian-born pilot who moved from Bogota to Miami and holds an aeronautical engineering degree, with further study nearly complete at Miami Dade College. Social media shows a lighter side to his career, including a 2020 in-flight marriage proposal to his now-wife Lorena Arevalo, documented in a nine-minute video.
