Review: Duskfade (Switch 2) – A Very Likeable Kingdom Hearts-Inspired Platformer That’s Not Quite There

Nintendo Life · 3 hours ago

Duskfade is a likeable, Kingdom Hearts-inspired 3D platformer from indie developer Weird Beluga, praised for recapturing the charm and experimentation of older mid-budget console games despite clear shortcomings. Its heartfelt story follows Zirian as he tries to rescue his sister from a disaster involving ancient time magic, using themes of grief, love and loss to give the adventure emotional weight.

The reviewer finds the central sibling story effective but criticises the wider Master Clockmakers lore as unfocused and overly reliant on exposition. Gameplay uses wide-linear levels with side paths, collectables and gradually unlocked movement and combat skills, including grappling and rail-grinding; while the level design can feel basic and Zirian’s movement somewhat floaty, the challenge is generally satisfying rather than frustrating.

  • A charming but imperfect 3D platforming adventure.
  • Its emotional sibling story works better than its lore.
  • Varied movement abilities keep exploration engaging.
