Kennedy said the Department of Health and Human Services traced the outbreak's source through an epidemiological investigation and has since implemented recalls of the implicated products. He did not use the briefing to detail the precise origin of the contamination, but stated it had led to widespread cases of illness, describing the effects informally as causing "explosive diarrhoea" across the affected states.
