The visit marked the anniversary of an attack that highlighted safety concerns for public-health workers and the lasting impact on the agency’s staff and facilities.

Kennedy attended a ceremony commemorating Rose, including the unveiling of a memorial plaque, and held a discussion with CDC employees. Rose, 33, was killed on 8 August 2025 while responding to the shooting; the attacker, Patrick Joseph White, had targeted the CDC after expressing grievances about COVID-19 vaccines.
