The sequel Spaceballs: The New One has finished filming and is set for release next spring, with director Josh Greenbaum discussing production ahead of its Comic-Con panel. Greenbaum revealed that the toughest part of making the long-awaited follow-up to Mel Brooks' 1987 cult classic wasn't recreating the original's comedy but saying goodbye to the cast and crew after months of close-knit filming together.

The film, directed by Greenbaum and written by Josh Gad, Dan Hernandez and Benji Smit, reunites original stars including Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman and Daphne Zuniga alongside newcomers Keke Palmer, Lewis Pullman, Anthony Carrigan and Gad. The cast and crew spent five months filming together in Sydney, Australia, forming close bonds through activities like whale watching and karaoke, which made wrapping the shoot emotionally difficult. Spaceballs: The New One is scheduled for release on 23 April 2027, with Brooks promising it will be "just like the old one, but it's newer."
