Ring has launched an updated version of its peephole-replacement doorbell camera, the Peephole Cam 2K, which slots into an existing door peephole without any drilling or wiring, making it well suited to rental properties. The device succeeds Ring's Door View Cam, which launched in 2019, and brings a sleeker design alongside improved video quality and tracking, positioning it as a more capable and affordable option for renters and homeowners who want smart doorbell functionality without permanent alterations to their door.

The new camera doubles resolution from 1080p to 2K and is priced lower than its predecessor at $99.99, with preorders open now and shipping expected later in August 2026. It splits into two halves fitted through the peephole, with an outward-facing camera, doorbell, speaker and microphone, and an inward half housing a removable battery rated for around 120 days of use; there is no internal screen, so users must check a phone or smart display to see visitors. It offers real-time motion alerts with brief scene descriptions and customisable detection zones across its 140-degree field of view, though extended 180-day event storage and package-detection alerts require a separate Ring Protect subscription.
