Weezer performed their new single "We Might as Well Be Strangers" on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on 19 August, with frontman Rivers Cuomo painting his skin gold to match an all-gold outfit inspired by New York street performers. The stunt promotes the band's forthcoming record, The Gold Album, which is released this Friday, and comes as the group also prepares for a major world tour.

Silversun Pickups bassist Nikki Monninger stood in as guest vocalist for Karly Hartzman, wearing a gold dress, while guitarist Brian Bell played a sparkly gold guitar and the rest of the band's gear carried golden accents. In an accompanying interview, Cuomo and drummer Patrick Wilson discussed their early careers and the "Weezer: The Gathering" tour, which begins in North America with The Shins and Silversun Pickups in early September before dates in Japan, Ireland, the UK and Europe in early 2027. Cuomo also stressed that the new album was made by the band working together in person, saying such music "can't be created by AI or somebody on their own working on a computer."
