The Republican National Committee has sent formal notices to New Jersey election officials, warning it may sue if they do not provide voter-roll records by 15 September. The dispute centres on records of noncitizens removed from the rolls, citizenship checks and maintenance procedures, amid concerns raised over an earlier motor-vehicle agency software error.

The RNC says Bergen County removed 134 noncitizens from voter rolls between January 2023 and August 2026, including 91 registrations linked to the Motor Vehicle Commission. New Jersey says the error improperly registered about 6,600 people between June 2023 and June 2024; roughly 5,100 were removed, about 1,450 were marked for review, and around 340 affected registrants voted. The state says its investigation continues and county officials were told to resolve outstanding cases before November.
