A pub landlord near Sheffield says he may have to lay off staff after a wildfire-related road closure cut off passing trade. Steve Marsh, owner of The Dog & Partridge Inn in Flouch, said keeping the westbound carriageway of the A628 Woodhead Pass shut makes "no sense", as the nearby car fire that originally triggered the closure has been extinguished, though a much larger moorland fire still burns some 10 miles away near Glossop.

The A628 was closed on Thursday after a car crash sparked a moorland blaze, and remains partially shut, with National Highways saying it expects the closure to last until at least Monday 27 July while diversions are reviewed daily. About 65 firefighters from ten services are tackling the separate, larger Tintwistle Moor fire, which could burn for another week. National Highways said it is installing signage confirming the pub is open and adjusting the closure to allow safe access in both directions, while Marsh, who says he is losing "thousands of pounds a week", is also pressing the agency to avoid scheduling planned bridge repair works during the pub's busiest August weekends.
