Robert Plant was already in Led Zeppelin. One otherworldly 1960s band left him amazed

Far Out ·

While already part of Led Zeppelin, Robert Plant was struck by the power of the original Jeff Beck Group when he saw them playing in America. He later chose their version of Howlin’ Wolf’s “I Ain’t Superstitious” as a song that captured his memories of the 1960s music scene, praising the interplay between guitarist Jeff Beck and singer Rod Stewart.

Plant had first learned his craft with Band of Joy, before Jimmy Page invited him to join the group that became Led Zeppelin. The Jeff Beck Group released the track in 1968, with Stewart on vocals, and its original line-up split the following year. Plant later paid tribute to Beck, who died in 2023, describing him as timeless and ever-evolving.
